Abstract


To explore the interrelationship among social support, loneliness and well-being.Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS), Loneliness Scale (UCLA), General Well-BeingSchedule（GW-BS）were administrated to400soldiers. To measure the status of their socialsupport, loneliness and general well-being, as well as the differences between land forceand navy, and to explore the relationship between their social support, loneliness andgeneral well-being, Mediating effects of loneliness between social support and well-beingwere tested in this study. The following are some conclusions:1. Compared with college students, the soldiers achieve fewer subjective support andobjective support from their friends and relatives.However the officers are good atobtain social support, they are more open-mind and likely receive care fromthe organization, comrades, friends and relatives than the college students. And then,compared with college students, officers experience less loneliness, andmore happiness.2. Compared with land force, navy achieve fewer subjective support, objectivesupport and utilization of social support from their friends and relatives. Navyexperience more loneliness than land force. However, the feeling of happiness amongthe soldiers who take in charge of different duties are totally the same.3. The more social support achieved by the soldiers, the less loneliness they experience, aswell as the more happiness. The more loneliness achieved by the soldiers, the lesshappiness they experience.4. The effect of social support on well-being can be mediated by loneliness. The soldiers’subjective support and utilization of social support has a predictable effect onwell-being. The more subjective support and utilization of social support achieved bythe soldiers, the more happiness they experience. The soldiers’ subjective support andutilization of social support has a predictable effect on loneliness. The more subjectivesupport and utilization of social support achieved by the soldiers, the less loneliness they experience. Finally, social support affect general well-being indirectly throughloneliness.
