Abstract
Gender study has penetrated into every aspect of relevant academic research and literature writing during last three decades of 20th century. As female is going to be writer or translator, they will emphasize the subjectivity of female’s discourse intentionally or unintentionally in order to highlight sense of feminism. With the deeper understanding of translator’s subjectivity and ideology, translators’ creativity and their works have been well affirmed and received. Influenced by translator’s cultural background, the choice of original text and the strategy of translation will reshape the original characters or objects during the process of translating so as to reconstruct identity. Jane Eyre is a masterpiece of feminism, and the two Chinese translated texts by Zhu Qingying and Huang Yuanshen are quite typical for translation study. Through the historical review of feminism, translation and the integration of them, this paper aims to point out the achievement and shortage of reconstructing identity. With the analysis of two Chinese versions of Jane Eyre on differences in choice of words, syntax, translation strategies and emotion expressions, the paper aims to find out the differences in reconstructing identity by translators of different genders and the tendency of reconstructing identity during translating process. There are further discussions on the causes, features and enlightenment as well.
