Abstract


The twelfth five-year plan of our country has put forward clearly to accelerate and deepen the education reform and to promote the scientific development of education. With the deepening of the Reform and Opening up and the fasten progress of the economic globalization, the international communication are happening with increasing frequency. The society would definitely put forward higher requirements to the English level of these patient talents. As the main educational base which sends out the high-quality personals, the teaching level of the college English in the higher educational institutions became much more important.The prediction of the college English reform is identifying the starting point which is cultivating the talents could meet the expectation of the social needs.In the modern college English teaching process, awareness of the existence of needs and the importance of needs analysis has been widely recognized. Comprehensive needs analysis should include the student’s needs and the needs of the society. It is probably that there are needs contradiction between the Needs of learners and social needs. This problem has begun to attract wide attention. The main problem that the college English teaching reform is trying to solve is just the contradiction between the learners’needs and the social needs which exist in the teaching process.Needs analysis is a kind of diagnostic process which finding out the problem first before trying to solve the problem. Through the needs analysis, the expected English level of the students, the request from the society to the personals could be found, then the teaching strategies, the teaching models and the assessment ways could be adjusted accordingly.Based on the theory of "needs analysis" and the research with the needs contradiction as main content, the author attempts to examine the impact of needs contradiction on college English teaching reform through the needs survey and needs analysis. The results show that the existence of needs contradiction will affect the learning needs of learners and the social needs to the personnel’s’English level. And this contradiction could be eased and controlled by the teaching reform of the curriculum reform and assessment system,then a dynamic and virtuous circle could be built in which the students’needs and the social needs could be meet effectively by solving the needs contradiction through the proper teaching reform.
