Gu Shusen wasn’t only an educationist, but also an educational practitioner. He engaged in educational career about dozens of years, and formed his unique educational thoughts on the basis of practice, which involved many aspects of education fields. Of course, his unique thoughts have made an ever-lasting contribution to the development of modern education. The paper strives to introduce Gu Shusen objectivitily and finds a reasonable position in the modern educational history for him, which brings inspirations for today’s education. This can let his thoughts gradually known and won’n be recognized. This paper has the following parts:The introducion, is formed by topic reasons, research significances, literature reviews, feasibility analysis, concept definitions, research method, difficulty and emphasis, and introduces the research value of Gu Shusen’s educational thoughts.The first part of the text, combining the time background, introduces the origin of Gu Shusen’s educational thoughts from the influence of traditional culture, the impact of new ideas and his own experience and so on.The second part of the text, along the time, shows the most representive aspects of Gu Shusen’s educational thoughts, such as:the children’s education thoughts, the vocational education thoughts, national education ideas and the research thoughts about history of education. In the process of details gradually reveal his thoughts’facilitation to Chinese modern education.The third part of the text, firstly, summaries the characteristics of Gu Shusen’s education thoughts. Secondly, it successively analyzes the historical contribution of his education ideas. At last, the text uses the method of historical essay to summarize and evaluate.The epilogue, confirms Gu Shusen’s efforts for education as a whole.
