Reform in preschool education in the United Kingdom has not stopped since late1990s.The British Government has been playing an important role in the development of preschool education and created many preschool education reform policies and the preschool foundation stage curriculum guidelines, which have greatly promoted the reform of preschool education reform and development.At present, every country in the world gives priority to the construction of the curriculum standards in the tide of education reform. As the important part of fundamental education curriculum reform, kindergarten curriculum reform attracted great attention as well. However, at present, there are no kindergarten mathematics curriculum standards in China. It is necessary for us to construct a kindergarten curriculum standard in mathematics. This helps enrich the curriculum theory of kindergarten mathematics education, meanwhile may direct practice activity in kindergarten. The preschool mathematics curriculum standard is a reference frame for the level of mathematics teaching and early childhood development of mathematics. The perfection of preschool mathematics education curriculum standards is the fundamental guarantee to promote the quality of preschool mathematics education.This thesis adopts literature review and comparative research method to introduce three important mathematics curriculum standards in the reform of the UK mathematics curriculum standards, which are The National Curriculum for England:Mathematics (1989), The National Curriculum for England: Mathematics (1995) and The National Curriculum for England:Mathematics (2000).This thesis analyzes the background and framework of these national curriculum for England: Mathematics and makes the conclusion that the curriculum reform in England mathematics curriculum standards in preschool education has gone through formation-reformation-perfection. This thesis makes a detailed analysis of The Foundation Stage Curriculum Guideline (2000), Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2008) and proposes several ideas to the formation of kindergarten-mathematics curriculum standards in China.This thesis is consisted of six chapters:Chapter One mainly introduces the origin of the question, significance of research, research methodology and approach of this thesis and literature review of scholarly works in British Mathematics Education.Chapter Two introduces the policies and legislation of preschool education in the UK, mainly the background of the British mathematics curriculum standards.Chapter Three analyzes mathematics education theory in the UK, introduces the main philosophical and theoretical model of curriculum of preschool education in the UK.Chapter Four gives a detailed introduction of background, objective and guiding principles of mathematics curriculum standards in the UK.Chapter Five discusses Connecticut preschool mathematics curriculum standards. According to the translation and analysis of The Foundation Stage Curriculum Guideline (2000), Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2008) and other texts, this chapter discusses background, objective and guiding principles of Connecticut preschool mathematics curriculum standards.Chapter Six is conclusion and proposal. Connecticut preschool Curriculum Standards has significant features. According to the current situation of preschool education in China, formulating kindergarten mathematics curriculum standards have been advanced.
