Abstract


Faculty governance is one of the traditional administration models in western universities. It has a long history. Dating from Paris University in the middle Ages, it has played a very important role in the development of the western university. Faculty governance once there were transient introduction in the end of the19th and first half of20th century as the system of a kind of university. Cai yuanpei and Mei yiqi first implemented the Faculty governance in Peking University and Tsinghai University, and it play a very important role to the development of the Chinese university. After new China establishment, because system reason of respect Faculty governance the introduction in our country had break down long-term. In recent years, with the reform of higher education administration system, Faculty governance begins to be paid more and more attention. Many universities in China start another round attempt of implementing Faculty governance to build Chinese characteristic system of Faculty governance.This thesis applies the method of comparison, literature and research to study faculty governance systematically. This thesis includes of four parts below.The first chapter is an introduction, mentioned that part of the main issues raised, the status of domestic and international research, relevant concepts described, the main research contents and methods, and research significance. The second chapter is the development process of Faculty governance. The second part is about the definition, origin and reviewed the status of domestic and Faculty governance. The answer comes to the conclusion of necessity. The third chapter is the main problem of the Faculty governance. This chapter tries to find the cause of the problems in Faculty governance from education system, internal institutional and professor issues. The fourth chapter is the improvement of the Faculty governance. Based on the three chapters, this chapter tries to find the balance point of the three levels. So the Faculty governance can be properly implemented and play a positive role in China university.
