Abstract

Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is a kind of elementalqualitative and quantitative analysis which based on the emission spectrumfrom plasma generated by focusing a high power density pulse laser beam onsample surface. As a new elemental quantitative analytical method, LIBS hasits own advantages such as multi-element rapid in situ and real time detectionwith minimal destroy of sampler and no need for sample preparation. It notonly can be used in trace element quantitative analysis of solid, liquid andgaseous sample, but also be applicable to high temperature and toxicenvironment where the traditional analysis technique can not be carried out.So LIBS is extensively concerned by the detection technology researchers. With the rapid development of heavy industry, the environment isseriously polluted by the heavy metals such as plumbum, cadmium, chromiumand copper in waste water from the factory. The increased destroy to the waterquality of rivers and lakes lead to the more serious pollution in soil and cropsand ultimately threatening the health of human beings. So it is necessary todevelop the high sensitive, rapid in situ and real time trace heavy metalelement detection technique used in liquid matrix. Due to the intrinsicadvantage of LIBS, a lot of investigators try to explore the application of LIBS to the monitor of heavy metal in liquid solution. In our work, theexperiment study on the LIBS detection of heavy Cd element in liquid jet wascarried out. The main contents of this thesis are listed as follows. In chapter1, the research background and significance are brieflydescribed. The characteristics and application of LIBS are introduced inchapter2. In chapter3, the basic theory of LIBS technique was presented. Theliquid jet LIBS experiment setup and approach are described in detail inchapter4.Chapter5presents the experiment investigation on the Single-Pulse(SP)LIBS of Cd element in CdCl2liquid jet. In order to enhance the Signal toNoise ratio, the influence of the experiment parameters such as laser pulseenergy, detection time delay of ICCD, ICCD gain and ICCD gate width onLIBS signal are studied. Under the optimum experiment parameters, the SPLIBS calibration curve of Cd element is measured with Cd361.05nm spectraline. The limit of detection (LOD) of Cd element is obtained with the value57.63ppm.In chapter6, the Dual-Pulse(DP) LIBS of Cd element in CdCl2liquid jetis measured in the experiment. The effect of inter-pulse delay time, detectiontime of ICCD and ICCD gate width on LIBS signal were investigated with Cd361.05nm spectra line. Under the optimum experiment parameters, the DPLIBS calibration curve of Cd element is measured. The LOD was obtained as18.53ppm. It is shown that the Double-pulse LIBS signal intensity and signal to noise ratio(S/N) are much better than SP case. The DP LIBS detectionsensitivity is3times than SP LIBS and is far high than that in reportedreference.
