As the development of wireless technology, wireless networks have been graduallyapplied to many aspects of social life, among which there’re many similar applications ofvideo surveillance, video conferencing. These applications are based on real-time streamingmedia’s transmission in wireless networks. In recent years, research on real-time streamingmedia’s transmission in wireless networks has become increasingly popular. We know thatthere are many the influence factors of streaming media transmission in a wireless network,such as the lower transfer rate, easier to be interferenced, high link error rate and large delayjitter. Because of these shortcomings, the wireless network has a large disadvantage comparedto the wired network in application of streaming media’s transmission. In wired networks,TFRC (TCP-Friendly Rate Control) is a better mechanism for real-time streaming media’sdelivery, but when applied to the wireless network, packet loss caused by wireless error willbe misled as congestion packet loss by the classic mechanism of TFRC, leading to lowerthroughput. Therefore, in order to afford real time streaming in wireless networks with betternetwork performance, the classic mechanism of TFRC have to be improved. This major workand research results of the paper are described as follows:1. Firstly, we have discussed the characteristics in the process of streaming media’stransmission, and point out that TFRC is available in streaming media’s transmission. As weknow, TFRC can’t effectively distinguish the causes of packet loss in wireless network, so itcan’t be used directly. As a result, TFRC mechanism must be improved to provide goodservices for streaming media’s transmission in wireless network.2. To solve the transmission control problem of the wireless network for real-timestreaming media service, this paper proposes a mechanism called Adaptive-TFRC which is an improved mechanism of TFRC. Firstly, we have improved the throughput model formula ofthe classic mechanism of TFRC in this paper, aiming at improving the issue that thethroughput of TFRC will fall when the situation of network congestion is serious.Then wehave discussed the internal operation method of this model formula, it can reflect the true stateof the network by using loss differentiation parameter of the receiving end, and then the valueof this model formula will be sent back to the sending end. Finally, it can realize the dynamicadaptation of transmission rate.3. The simulation result shows that Adaptive-TFRC can greatly improve the throughput,reduce the delay jitter of real-time traffic, and it posses TCP friendly characteristic very well,thus guaranteeing service quality of the wireless network real-time streaming media.
