Abstract


"Folklore" was first used by W. J. Thoms in 1846, marking the birth of folklore. The original meaning of "folklore" is "the lore of folk". The initial research objects are confined to the lower class, and the main research content is about the folk custom of backward villages. After nearly 150 years of development, the research objects of folklore gradually extended from rural peasants to any group that has something in common. Also its research field has spread to urban folklore, applied folklore and generic folklore from rural custom.The research on College students’ prevailing custom, which is in the scope of urban folklore, has a close relation with emerging campus folk. The main content is college students’ pursuit of material and spiritual prosperity, reflecting students’ common characteristic of outlook on life, values, aesthetic and behavior. With over 30 years of reform & opening up and rapid economic development, people’s outlook on life and values has made fundamental change. Prevailing custom of nowadays college students is formed in the clashes of the eastern and western cultures in every university’s unique campus culture atmosphere. In addition, the characteristics of post-80s and post-90s students also have an impact on prevailing custom of students.College students are the elite of society and the mainstay of social development. They play a noticeable rule in promoting the social development and cultural inheritance. Therefore, on the one hand the study on college students’ prevailing custom acquaints people with college students’ outlook on life, value orientation, ideological tendencies, Ideology, thinking pattern and so on, to understand their behavior and guide them correctly. On the other hand, it is of profound significance on the study on the formation and trend of society.
