Abstract

In Ad-Hoc network, multicast services have a wide range of applications, such as audio, video conference and remote education. In view of the advantage of multicast technology, take it into the Ad-Hoc network can efficiently save the network resource, reduce the network collision, enrich the application variety, extend the application fields. So do researching on multicast in layered Ad-Hoc network is very necessary. In Ad-Hoc network, cluster is always used to achieve the layered structure, and the formation and maintenance of the layered structure are relied on one cluster algorithm. Therefore, it’s significant for the study of multicast cluster algorithm in Ad-Hoc network. To use multicast transmission technology in layered Ad-Hoc network, we introduce the Geography-based Multicast Cluster Algorithm (GMCA). Its main idea is divide the network into three areas according to the node’s geography information, then chooses the cluster head based on the different areas. The simulation results show that GMCA makes multicast technology suitable in layered Ad-Hoc network, and improves the network performance in cluster head number, running time and dead nodes number. To concern the energy balance in layered Ad-Hoc network, we research an Energy Efficient GMCA (EE-GMCA). We use the node’s geography information to partition the network area and then comprehensively consider the remaining energy and connectivity degree to determine the cluster head. The simulation results show that compare with GMCA, it can effectively reduce the energy consummation and prolong the running time of Ad-Hoc network.
