Abstract


Since the beginning of the21st century, with the rapid development of network storage technologies, storage devices and storage network management issues increasingly become the research focus of the storage industry. In order to solve the problem of interoperability between heterogeneous storage systems, management difficulties and the high costs, the SNIA(Storage Networking Industry Association) put forward the SMI-S(Storage Management Initiative Specification)in2002. The SMI-S’s main purpose is to provide a standardized means of communication between storage devices and storage management software, to achieve the unified management of heterogeneous storage devices, to improve the flexibility and reliability of storage management, reduce management costs.In this thesis, based on a careful analysis of the current mainstream network storage system architecture and storage management technologies, I focus on research and design of the INSS (Intelligent Network Storage System) and its storage management technology which our group had put forward. The INSS combines the advantages of SAN, NAS and DAS. Through intelligent algorithms and virtualization technology, the INSS can solve a common problem in a series of current mainstream network storage systems such as storage capacity expansion, the single point of failure, load balancing. It has the characteristics of high-performance, high reliability and intelligent. It also meet the needs of accessing data simply and efficiently. In order to better manage the INSS, my paper designs the INSS storage management solution based on the current mainstream storage management techniques. It preliminarily achieves monitoring and management of the INSS and improves the management efficiency. The following are the main research work done in this thesis:1. Analysis and study of the INSS storage management specification, such as SMI-S, WMI, WBEM and CIM.2. According to the INSS system structure and the different location of the heartbeat information, proposed the INSS three-layer heartbeat network system architecture and designed a kind of applicable to the INSS’s adaptive heartbeat algorithm. The algorithm can dynamically adjust heartbeat cycle through the detection heart service level. It also can effectively reduce the network traffic of storage management and improve the INSS’s high availability.3. Base on the INSS’s adaptive heartbeat detection mechanism, study several key issues in the INSS load balancing. Put forward a hierarchical dynamic load balancing scheduling policy which works for load balancing algorithm providing load information and task scheduling support.4. Make some functional tests on the INSS storage management system and analyze the test results. The test results show that the storage management methods in this thesis can real-time monitor the INSS storage devices and storage networks. The adaptive heartbeat detection mechanism and the load balancing scheduling policy can improve the INSS of high availability and storage performance.
