Abstract


Along with the development of the technology and the emergence of computer science, the field of art design has been experiencing the revolutionary innovation. More and more companies in the design profession begin to put the computer rendering cartography as the main way of design express, which has been gradually replacing the traditional hand-drawing.Those who engaged in rendering cartography know that so many factors could decide whether a certain rendering cartography is good or not. However, in my opinion, light and shade effect is of the upmost importance, which is also the one that could easily be neglected. Hereby I choose to combine the light and shade theory and the computer rendering theory together in order to give a better understanding to the importance of light and shade towards rendering art while studying or working on the rendering cartography. This thesis gives an introduction of the features of natural light and shade while at the same time, put an emphasis of the functions and features of computer virtual light. Hereafter the study of application and representation of light and shade in painting, sculpture, architecture, etc, has been put forward. Then the conclusion of light and shade theory system according with computer rendering has been given through the combination of relative theories and the computer virtual light technology, therefore the artistic and theoretical characteristics of rendering cartography has been augmented.
