Abstract


In recent years, with the continuous improvement of computer level, as well as thecontinuous improvment on the computer graphics technology, virtual manufacturingtechnology has got rapid development. In the modern, virtual manufacturing technologyhas a pivotal position not only in the prediction process, but also in the processingefficiency in the modern manufacturing industry. One of its applications in welding isthe welding simulation system. The welding simulation system is a significant realisticmeaning issue, which plays an important role in training welder operators and assessingwelding operation. This paper chiefly deals with the design and implementation of thesoftware of the welding simulation system.In this paper, using the characteristics and needs of the welding process as thestarting point for research and analysis, we decide to exploit this multi-pass weldingsystem by using C++as the programming language, and the OpenGL graphicstechnology in the platform Visual C++6.0. We have studied and analyzed severalcommon modeling methods in this paper, and according to the characteristics ofdifferent models, we have selected the suitable methods to implement the models whichare listed as follows, environment, welding torch, welding parts, sparks. Besides, we usevirtual ball technology to implement the transformation of users’ perspective. The majorwork completed in this paper is listed as follows:1)We choose the particle system tosimulate the sparks.2) In the implementation of the weldments, we have acomprehensive analysis of several modeling methods, taking into account the weldmentneeds to make a dynamic changes in the welding process, we choose the delaunaytriangulation to deal with the face which can be contacted in the welding process. Afterthat, by controlling the vertex of the triangle, we can achieve the purpose of changingthe shape of the weldment. In the triangulation algorithm, we make an improvement inthe section of the LOP optimization, the traditional method is comparing the distance,based on that, we have increased a circle circumscribing square to decide therelationship of the point and circle, and finally, we get a better efficiency.3)Accordingto the geometric characteristics of the weld, we choose two cubic-Bezier curves toachieve the purpose of the simulation of the weld cross-section, besides, we give adetailed analysis of the relationship between the bezier curve and the geometry size of the weld cross-section.4)With calculating the base metal melting area when welding,we use the polygon intersection algorithm.5)Using the trackball technology to rotatethe model.Finally, through running some instances of the program, we have proved that thesystem can meet our requirements not only in real-time, interactive, but also has a goodthree-dimensional graphics display capabilities,this system can simulate the weldingprocess efficiently.
