Abstract


When Ulrich Beck claims that people are"living on the volcano of literature", thepositive effect of science and technology on enhancing industrial society’s developmentis gradually being questioned by people. In the process of modernization, the rapidgrowth of productive forces helps people achieve successive successes in conqueringthe nature.However, science and technology, as the important way to solve problems, atthe same time, is also the main reason that produces many problems: the developmentof science and technology has brought more "manufactured"risks. The existence of therisk society is already an established fact, and as a kind of social form, the study of risksociety is of great significance to the development of human society.Risks in real social life cannot be experienced but mostly being built by politicalgroups, economic organizations, and the news media. While these social roles’ earlywarning for risks will generate important influence on the public’s risk-consciousness.No matter for political groups, economic organizations or the news media, study whatmeasures they use to spread and manage the risk possesses more practical applicationvalue.Theory of image restoration strategies pays more attention to the spread of risksand its application fields include individuals, political organizations and enterprisegroups. Benoit applied the theory into handling all kinds of crisis in the United States,which has proved its effectiveness. While, is it still effective in the Chinese context?Would Image-restoration theory remain to play a role under the influence of China’sdomestic political, economic, cultural factors, and so on? These thinking are of greatsignificance to China’s risk-coping researches in the state of high social risks.In the background of "high-risk"society of China, the construction of harmonioussociety is still a long way to go. Whether political groups or economic organizations,only by strengthen the cultivation of early-warning consciousness, can people really do"nip in the bud". And when risks turned into real crisis, the government should imposestrong control and establish effective risk-coping mechanisms in the whole society;News media should focus on the coordination and communication of various socialaspects, and establish fair and justice transmission channels for crisis management.Only in this way can we make the public—the information receiver form correct vies of crisis, and make the harmonious society a reality.
