Abstract


Carbon dioxide is one of the most available form in the natural gas, has been widespread used in petrochemical industry agriculture production food processing, etc. Meanwhile carbon dioxide is considered to be the big contributor of Greenhouse effect, up to70%.the alarming increase of carbon dioxide concentration in atmospheric layer throws a challenge for the globe ecosystem. The meaning of monitoring the content of carbon dioxide in atmosphere, seawater and its existence forms is of significance both from economical and environmental point.At present the most widely used monitoring methods are including infrared spectroscopy analysis, acid base titration, gas chromatography(TCD, FID), optic chemical sensor and electro chemical analysis. Because of high sensitivity, improved selectivity, user-friendly control, electro chemical analysis draws a lot of attention. Nowadays the most commonly applied electrochemical sensor of carbon dioxide is potentiometric analysis, but this kind of detector is vulnerable to impurities. But amperometric sensor not limited by these factor has promising future. Carbon dioxide itself is very difficult to give electroredox reaction on electrode surface because of its chemical inertness,otherwise it will require a quite high overpotential. Then direct measurement of CO2based on it reductive current is out of reach. But the dissociation reaction of CO2in aqueous solution and the electrochemical behavior of CO2with O2in non-aqueous media has piratical meanings. Based on these two reaction we have proposed and established an indirect method monitoring of CO2. Apply cyclic voltammetry on HCl、CO2.H2O、 CO2-HCl system, the existence of CO2in acid solution change the determining step of hydrogen evolution reaction from diffusion control to the co-effect of diffusion and chemical rate, the increase of peak current is proportional to the concentration of CO2. In acetonitrile supported organic solution, existence of CO2increase the reductive current of O2, the increase is proportional to the volume fraction of CO2.
