Nowadays, more and more researchers pay their attention to geopolymer because of its high performance. Geopolymers can apply to a variety of areas; geopolymers coating is one of them. The workability of geopolymer is the necessary conditions for its usability, while liquidity is an important indicator of workability. In recent years, the research about the rheological properties of inorganic material such as cement and concrete had attracted people’s attention. This topic references some theoretical research of concrete rheological properties, determining some rheological index of geopolymer. Through the analysis of the rheological properties of geopolymer, we can study the structure change of gel process of geopolymer.Sodium silicate’s own performance, mixing ratio of sodium silicate and metakaolin, time, temperature etc. may had varying degrees of impact to the rheological properties of geopolymer. This experiment based on rheology basic principle and researches various factors which influence the rheological properties of geopolymer. We mainly determinated the rheological properties of sodium silicate and slurry of different formula. The results are as follows:(1)Temperature is one of the main factors influencing viscosity of sodium silicate, and viscosity of sodium silicate will be bigger in the low temperature. For example, the modules of sodium silicate for1.3, its viscosity is0.156Pa-s in40℃, and the viscosity increases to2.66Pa-s in10℃. If the temperature becomes too high, the sodium silicate may lose activity. In addition, the modules of sodium silicate also have effect on its viscosity, the lower the modules the higher of the viscosity. When the modules of sodium silicate from3.2down to1.3, its viscosity by0.105Pa·s rise to0.551Pa-s.(2)For the test of rheological properties of slurry, the results show that:for the geopolymer slurry of different modules of sodium silicate, the lower the module the higher viscosity of slurry. When the module of sodium silicate from1.9down to1.6, the viscosity of geopolymer slurry from3.8Pa-s rise to6.41Pa-s. The gel point of slurry will become higher. When module of sodium silicate in1.9, its gel point appear in45℃, and module of1.6’s is greater than50℃. For different dosage of sodium silicate in the paste, the more dosage of sodium silicate, the lower viscosity it had. When the amount of metakaolin fixed is180g, the viscosityof slurry which add150g of sodium silicate is9.48Pa-s, and the viscosity of slurry which add180g of sodium silicate is lower to5.27Pa-s. Meanwhile, the size of the elastic and viscous response is closer, and the gel point is in a higher temperature. When dosage of sodium silicate is150g, its gel point appears in42℃, and dosage of180g, the gel point appears in50℃(3)Temperature is the important factors influencing the reaction. Analyzing the change curve of modulus and temperature of slurry, we found that the advisable aging temperature of the slurry is30℃. (4)Preparing the geopolymer slurry in the best formula and curing in30℃, the curing time is8h.After comprehensive analysis, when the amount of metakaolin fixed is180g, the dosage of sodium silicate is165g in modulus of1.8, curing the slurry in30℃for8h, can prepare the coating by the beat performance.
