With the gradual popularization and competition intensifies of Blu-ray player, the demand for BD player cost down is increasing in the market. As the core components, the structure and cost of the Traverse unit will restrict the Blu-ray player’s performance and market share. The traverse base, which acts as the component that occupies a larger share of cost, has been made by metal materials since the birth of BD player. It has been an important project to improve material utilization ratio, reduce material cost that the mechanical designers need to consider. It will solve the material cost reduction requirement of the traverse base and has important significance for the enterprises to improve their market share and competitiveness if we can use resin material.This paper is made by researching probability of resin material on traverse base based on above purpose. We found the important points are weaken of strength caused by resin material, the increase of mold investment, the influence on the vibration characteristics caused by resin weight change. To solve these problems, we selected the most suitable material as PC+GF through the comparison and evaluation of different types of resin material; using the optimization design theory to analyze the design of buckle, resin spring and study the possibility of resin guide shaft design to decrease part’s qty.; through innovative of main shaft assemble mode to lower the mold design and maintenance cost; by design and verification based on the materials, hardness parameters of damper, we eliminated the effects of vibration parameters change for servo caused by resin traverse base. Finally, we tested various environmental aging wear out tests, drop performance test, etc. and the research results meet our requirements and successfully approach the design requirement.By the mass production of resin traverse base, there is a0.9RMB (-7.3%) cost down of material and0.5min (-8.1%) processing time fall. These will bring considerable profit for the company according to the2million sets production plan in2013~2015.
