Abstract

Metal cutting is the most common and major process manner in mechanical manufacture. As the increasing demands of precision equipments in electronic, optical and biological field and the reducing volume of the product, it has put forward higher demands for metal cutting quality. Therefore, it is very important meaning for either traditional or advanced machining technique to study cutting process, master cutting rules and realize optimizing cutting. In this thesis, the milling machining performance when die steel (DC53) was milled by our university developed composite ceramic tool Al2O3/Ti(CN) was studied. In the paper, the finite element analysis criterion was firstly established by used the ABAQUS/Explicit finite element software, which modeling analysis was completed, material model was inputted, frictional contact type was modified and chip separation criterion was defined. Secondly, the new composite ceramic tool Al2O3/Ti(CN) was taken as study objects based on rigid-plastic finite element method, the cutting finite element model with the different cutting parameters was built, and the simulation of metal cutting process was realized. The influence of cutting conditions on the physical phenomena in cutting process was analyzed, such as main cutting force, cutting temperature and tool state of stress distribution. Lastly, the milling test of the new composite ceramic tool Al2O3/Ti(CN) was carried out. The curves of milling force and surface roughness in the different cutting parameter were obtained, and it is found that there exists a good accordance between the simulated and the experimental results. The theoretical research, experiment and simulation were researched in this paper. The results show that the main physical elements of cutting process are theoretically predicted by metal cutting finite element simulation, a feasible method to research metal cutting theory and development the new type tool material is provided, and it is important for the research on higher efficient and lower consumption metal cutting. Moreover, the more superiority and the difference between the new ceramic tool and the ordinary ceramic tool are found.
