Abstract


Nowadays people desire to return to nature and experience life’s comfort and freedom,which seem to provide a rare opportunity for hand-crochet products to have a vastcommercial market. As an important representative of handmade craft, hand-crochet productsrepresent unique simplicity in the contemporary society, bearing fresh breath of thehumanities in the circumstance of post-industrial and fast-paced life and carrying valueinformation of great affinity as well. However, the contradiction between the concepts oftraditional and the modern fashion as well as the confrontation between manual and industrialdevelopment virtually constraints or even hinder the development of hand crochet. Thisrequires us, when resolving conflicts, to emphasize hand crochet products’ technology anddesign innovation, to pay attention to the concept of sustainable development and to dig themarket potential of hand crochet products from the horizontal and vertical depth.Under the circumstance, this paper finds out the uniqueness of the craft of Chinesetraditional hand crochet and the existing problems emerging in the process of designing andpromoting. Based on the present condition, with the combination of theoretical analysis andcase study, the paper also carries out a serious research on the process of innovative design ofhand crochet products.Research and contents are as follows:First, it studies the historical origin, craft characteristics and cultural features ofhand-crochet and grasp its historical context. On the base of that, it also studies how to addvalue to the products so that they can occupy a place when competition in the commercialmarket and can provide a theoretical basis for the application of hand crochet craft to businessdesigners. Second, the existence of everything is always influenced by various factors. Handcrochet is not an exception. Through the analysis of various factors and under the premise ofgrasping the status quo of its application, it finds the different niches in market and designthem innovatively to meet the growing personalized demand of customers. Third, theapplication research of hand crochet is the process of its innovative design, which is reflectedin the aspects, such as innovations of texture, color, pattern and category. In the process of research, the paper finds out that innovative design must balance the following relationsunder the premise of grasping the clothing trends: one, the value and price of hand crochetproducts; two, tradition and innovation; three, creativity and market so that innovative designproducts can really serve the people. Four, through the analysis of hand crochet, itsummarizes several modes of application of innovative programs, analyzes deeply about itsfeasibility and provides real prototypes as references for some of the programs.
