Abstract


This thesis on Ancient Town in Hunan Province as object, Using the theory of group structure and group forms, combinating space syntax theory, integrated analysis space configuration on ancient town in Hunan province. At the same time, research attempting to present complex spatial structure of small towns on the interrelated analysis and synthesis.Space configuration on Ancient Town in Hunan province begin with theperspective of architecture design, is adapt to the needs on product the renewal of oldareas or of small complex planning and design. Group structure is a pattern language,and is cognitive model by every section organized with association and who lived inClose function. In complex patterns group and the study of cognitive science, spacesyntax based by in topological and graph theory, establishing cognitive process modelthrough diagram language, quantitativing description of space structure,comprehensive analysising the relationship between complex space, studying a morein-depth of space.This thesis start from the space of whole buildings. Large numbers of fieldresearch for spatial structure of town buildings in Hunan and pattern of architecturalcluster. Quantitative analysis of their overall form to local form. Resolution theirconstituent elements and summed up its characteristics of space configuration. Thisstudy in three-stages. First, inductive analysis on streets of the ancient town ofcomplex space and node characteristics. Second, leverage the Depthmap developedsoftware as a major space syntax analysis approach, and Transformation diagram ofblock space language. Third, comparative the analysis of the control value on ancientarchitectural complex characteristics，and Summary of Hunan town complex in spacesyntax features. Not only the study provides inspiration of the space for complexresearch and protection on syntactic characteristics, while have some reference valueon the current construction of small cities and towns.
