Abstract


Nowadays, sociolinguistics occupies an important position in China’s linguistics research, and of which the study on the address expressions is an important part,who has a long tradition. Recently, in practice and theory,there are both many achievements in the study on the address expressions, especially the study on specific books."Er Pai" is a masterpiece of Chinese ancient collections of stories made in vernacular, cast a bright light on the history of literary, and a valuable treasure trove of linguistics for future generations too, in which the address expressions is worthy of our study. This thesis studies the address expressions in "Er Pai" totally, compared with the modern Chinese, analyzing them with the way of sociolinguistics and pragmatics, indicating that they not only retained some residuals of classical Chinese, but also produced some characteristics of the modern Chinese, had obvious characteristics of the times.The first chapter of this thesis introduces the definition of the address expressions, the main fruits of the study on the address expressions of literary works, "Er Pai", the significance of studying its address expressions, source of language data and methods of study. The second chapter, combined with examples, classifies and lists all kinds of address expressions in it, and computes the number of occurrences. The third chapter, analyses the characteristics of address expressions in "Er Pai" in a systematic way. The fourth chapter, with the way of sociolinguistics, gives a total analyzing to the social characteristics which reflected by address expressions.
