Influence of Salinity Stress on the Seedling Growth and Physiological Characteristics of Sindora Glabra and Mesua Ferrea

Abstract


This experiment’s research materials were Sindora glabra and Mesua ferrea seedlings, from the Gaofeng state-owned Forestry Farm of Guangxi,what were growing health and almost with the uniform size. This experiment was trying to find the change rule of seedling height, diameter growth condition, biomass and leaf cell membrane permeability, chlorophyll content, leaf free proline content and leaf MDA content and other physiological indicators,when these experimental materials were growing in6different salt concentration (CK (0.0%),0.2%,0.4%,0.6%,0.8%,1.0%).The results show that:With the processing time longer, Sindora glabra and Mesua ferrea seedlings relatively high growth performance:CK>0.2%>0.4%0.6%>0.8%>1.0%, low salt concentration (0.0%~0.4%) and high salt concentration (0.6%~1.0%) treatment were significantly different between.In the seedling height to diameter ratio, different salt concentration on the influence of height to diameter ratiot of Mesua ferrea seedlings were similar to Sindora glabra seedlings, seedling leaves under salt stress, the high diameter ratio were increased, and increased with the concentration of salt. With the numerical of height length-diameter ratio to be larger, indicating that seedling diameter growth inhibition were more serious than height growth.This showed that with the salt concentration increases, the damage in diameter growth of Sindora glabra and Mesua ferrea seedlings become more serious, but there was no significant difference between the treatments.The influence of salt concentration on biomass were similar to Sindora glabra and Mesua ferrea seedlings.These treatments in total biomass, the ground part and underground part biomass were smaller to CK, and with the salt concentration increased, total biomass, the ground part and underground part biomass decreased.It illustrated that the treatments of salt concentration inhibited biomass growth of Sindora glabra and Mesua ferrea seedlings.When the content of salt stress were more than0.4%for Sindora glabra seedlings, more than0.6%for Mesua ferrea seedlings, the ground and underground part and total biomass of seedlings were significantly restrained. In contrast, Mesua ferrea seedlings were slightly higher than Sindora glabra seedlings on salt tolerance.In seedling stem root ratio, under different salt concentration, the impacts of stem root ratio on Mesua ferrea seedlings were similar to Sindora glabra seedlings. Under salt stress,seedling leaves’ stem root ratio increased, and increased with the salt concentration.With the numerical of Stem root ratio to be larger, indicating that the damage of seedling root were more serious than branches and leaves.It implied that with the salt concentration increased, the damage of Sindora glabra seedlings and Mesua ferrea seedlings root growth become more serious. No significant differences between the treatments of Sindora glabra seedlings. The treatments (1.0%,0.8%,0.6%) of Mesua ferrea seedlings in the high salt concentration were no significant difference, but in very significant difference with0.4%,0.2%and the CK.The relative conductivity value of Sindora glabra and Mesua ferrea seedlings leaves increased with the increase of the saltconcentration;the chlorophyll of Sindora glabra seedling changed "rise-drop-rise"; the free proline content of seedling leaves changed in the trend that drop first and then rise. MDA of seedling leaves at0.2%,0.4%,0.6%,0.8%treatments had a gradual rise of the situation, but at1.0%decimated;With increased salt stress, the content of chlorophyll declined; SOD and free proline content were lower than CK, but showed ascendant trend with the increase of salt concentration.Research results,from the growth and physiological characteristics, showed that Sindora glabra and Mesua ferrea seedlings were all with low levels of salt resistance, but had serious stress on high salt concentration that above0.4%~0.6%.
