Background:The appropriate intake of salt is necessary to maintain life activities. However, excessive intake of salt will cause serious harm to our body, studies have shown that excessive intake of salt is related to hypertension closely, increasing the incidence risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition, excessive intake of salt can also lead to overweight/obesity, diabetes, gastric cancer, osteoporosis, kidney stones, asthma and other health problems, and bring heavy burden to the economic and social development. The cognition of the low-salt diet by residents, the dietary behavior and its influencing factors were studied, which have an important practical significance to formulate relevant policy or measures to prevent and control the chronic disease.Objective:A sample survey was conducted, urban residents of Zhangdian district was chosed as the study objects, the prevalence of hypertension, sources of getting low-salt diet knowledge and KAP of low-salt diet were analyed. Based on this, the influencing factors of KAP of low-salt diet in urban area were analyed to identify the main influencing factors, proposing relevant policy and recommendations and provide basic basis for improving the level of knowledge of low-salt diet among urban residents and implement measures of salt reduction.Research Methods:607Urban residents aged18to69of Zhangdian district was chosed as the study objects by the sampling method of Probability Proportionate to Size (PPS). The sociodemographic characteristics of the study objects, the prevalence of hypertension, KAP of low-salt diet, measures of salt reduction and so on were collected in this study. The chi-square test was used to compare the difference of prevalence and awareness rate, if the data does not comply with normal distribution, then the rank sum test will be used. The multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the factors influceing the low-salt diet KAP of the study objects.Main resultsThe prevalence of hypertension in urban residents of Zhangdian district was24.20%, the men was significantly higher than the women, and the difference had statistical significance, the prevalence rate of hypertension increases with the age.43.66%of the subjects had received low-salt diet knowledge propaganda or health education. Radio and television and other news media, medical personnel, newspapers, magazines, brochures or promotional brochure were the main sources of the study objects obtain low-salt diet knowledge.The awareness rate of knowledge about low-salt diet among the study subjects was in a lower level. Except the correct answer rates of "long-term high-salt diet is related to the hypertension","less salt intake can lower the blood pressure","hypertensive patients should pay attention to low-salt diet" were above70%, the correct answer rates of the other questions were all below70%. The correct answer rates of "Too much salt intake can cause stroke","stroke patients should pay attention to low-salt diet","coronary heart disease patients should pay attention to low-salt diet" were between50%~70%, The correct answer rates of the other questions were below than50%. The correct answer rate of "Low sodium may help to control the blood pressure" was the lowest; the correct answer rate is19.1%. The study objects had a positive attitude to Low-salt diet, except the positive attitude rate of "salt/sodium lable can help consumers to select low-salt foods" was87.8%, the positive attitude rate of the other questions like "Approve low-salt diet","low salt diet should be propagated in the crowd","salt/sodium content should be in the lable of processed food products"were all over90%. The correct rate of low-salt diet behaviors of the objects were all in a lower level. Except the correct rate of low-salt diet behavior of "have intention to reduce the salt intake" was87.6%, the correct rate of the other low-salt diet behaviors like "using quantitative salt spoon","pay close attention to salt/sodium content when buying processed foods","using low sodium", "Take measures to reduce salt intake initiatively" were all lower than50%, the correct rate of low-salt diet behaviors of "using quantitative salt spoon","pay close attention to salt/sodium content when buying processed foods","using low sodium" were even lower than30%.The most importent factor that influcing the KAP of low-salt diet of the study was wether they had received low-salt diet knowledge propaganda or health education, followed by sex, age, education level and the main occupation.46.79%of the study subjects taken measures of reducing salt intake initiatively, the measures of reducing salt intake were main rely on "putting less salt when cooking", the selection rate was94.37%, followed by "eating less pickled products", the selection rate was63.38%. The selection rates of the other measures of reducing salt intake were all lower than50%.8.57%of the study participants didn’t have the intention of reducing salt intake even they know harm of high-salt intake, the main reason were "the taste will not good if putting less salt","the strength will be influenced if putting less salt","high-salt diet didn’t have harm to the body".SuggestionsThe prevalence rate of hypertension of urban residents in Zhangdian district was in a higher level; the intervention strategies and measures such as low-salt diet to control hypertension should be conducted to decrease the incidence and prevalence rate of hypertension. The salt reducing intervention strategies and measures of government-led and the whole social participate should be implemented, low-salt diet knowledge propaganda or health education should be strenthed in the work actively, the health education slso should be combined with the characteristics of different groups of people, food processing and sale enterprises should be encouraged to improve reducing the salt/sodium content in food and dishes, Carry out salt reduction skills tainning according to the features of Chinese people like cooking and fooding in their own home, reducing the salt intake without changing the taste as far as possible.
