ObjectiveIn the present study, we sought to investigate whether concentrations of plasmaZAG constitute an independent coronary risk factor, with particular focus on therelation between plasma concentrations of ZAG and the development of CAD, whichmay provide a novel diagnostic tool for assessing the risk of CAD.Methods142consecutive patients with suspected CAD were admitted to the first affiliatedhospital of university of south china between March1,2010and March1,2012.Thecontrol group consisted of32patients complaining of chest pains, but excluded theCAD by coronary angiography. The serum concentration of ZAG was measured byenzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Family history and clinical dataincluding sex, age, body mass index, blood sugar, blood lipid and blood pressure wererecorded. Results using statisitical analysis software SPSS13.0.ResultsSerum concentrations of ZAG in patients with ACS, were significantly lowerthan those in patients with SAP and in the control group. Serum concentrations ofZAG in patients with CAD including AMI, UAP,and SAP groups were significantlylower than in the control group.Serum concentrations of ZAG correlated negativelywith body mass index (R=-0.247, P<0.010) and fasting glucoseconcentrations(R=-0.298, P<0.01), but correlated positively with age (R=0.265,P<0.01),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (R=0.47,P<0.01) and serum triglyceride(R=0.279,P<0.01). There were no significant correlation between ZAG and lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol(R=-0.022,P=0.773), total cholesterol(R=0.099,P=0.195) and High sensitivity C-reactive protein (R=-0.117,P=0.124). Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that low log adiponectin concentration, diabetes mellitusand smoking correlated significantly and independently with the development of ACS(P<0.05).In addition, Plasma concentrations of ZAG correlated negatively withGensini scores(R=-0.67,P<0.05).ConclusionsSerum ZAG levels are significantly associated with coronary lesion complexityin human with CAD, which may be a useful biomarker for assessing the risk of CAD.
