Abstract

Part1Relationships between serum Omentin-1concentration and metabolic risk factorsObjective:Adipose tissue is not only an energy storage depot but also an active endocrine organ. Omtentin-1is a recently identified adipose tissue-derived cytokine. This study was undertaken to find the relationships between serum Omentin-1concentration and metabolic risk factors in postmenopausal women. Methods:The study was a cross-sectional study aimed of336(41-81years old) women. The subjects’height, weight, waist circumference and blood pressure were measured, Blood sugar concentrations were measured by glucose oxidase method. The plasma concentrations of adipocytokines were measured with ELISA.Automatic biochemical analyzer was used to measure the concentrations of blood lipid. Body composition were measured using dual-energy-x-ray absorptiometry. The relationship was analyzed by statistical methods.Results:(1) Plasma Omentin-1is negatively correlated with BMI, weight, waist circumference, trunk body fat, total fat mass, percentage of body fat (r=-0.248,-0.22,-0.176,-0.446,-0.815,-0.599),and the quadratic polynomial regression model match best (R2=0.573,0.613,0.405,0.705,0.908,0.696).(2) The plasma Omentin-1levels in the non-metabolic risk factor subjects is significantly lower than those of having more than one metabolic risk factor subjects by non-parametric test (p<0.05).Conclusion:(1) Plasma Omentin-1is negatively correlated with weight, BMI,waistline, fat body mass, trunck fat body mass and percentage of fat body mass.(2) The serum Omentin-1level of the none-metabolic risk factor subjects are higher than the groups having more than one metabolic risk factor subjects,it can serve as the indicator of assessing metabolic diseases. Part2Relationships between serum Omentin-1concentration and bone mineral density in postmenopausal womenObjective:This part was undertaken to find the relationships between serum Omentin-1concentration and bone mineral desity in postmenopausal women, expecting to find the adipose tissue’s influence on bone mineral density. Methods:Participants’ bone mineral density values were measured using dual-energy-x-ray absorptiometry at various skeletal sites:the anteroposterior spine (AP), femeral neck (FN),total hip (T-hip) and total body BMD (TBMD).Body composition including lean tissue mass (LTM) and body fat mass (FBM) were measured by DEXA.Bone turnover markers concentrations were measured by ELISA.The relationship was analyzed by statistical methods.Results:(1) Overweight and obese groups have more higher total hip、femerol neck, intertrochanter BMD than the nomal weight group.(2) Plasma Omentin-1is negatively correlated with AP, FN, Trochanter, Intertrochanter, T-hip and Ward’s BMD, after adjustment for age, BMI and fat body mass, the correlations are not significant.(3) Plasma Omentin-1is not significantly correlated with bone turnover markers.(4) Multiple stepwise regression anlysis reveals that lean body mass, menopause duration and estrogen level are the most important variables affecting the BMD and each can explain12.2-13.7%,6.9-13.1%,0.9-1.7%of the variances.Conclusion:(1) Plasma Omentin-1is not significantly correlated with BMD in postmenopausal women.(2) Lean body mass, menopause duration and estrogen level were the most important variables affecting the BMD.
