Background/Object: The aim of our study was to evaluate the superiority of laparoscopicadrenalectomy in the treatment of adrenal tumors and comparing it with open surgery.Materials and Methods: A total of70patients, mean age40years. Fifty patients underwentlaparoscopic adrenalectomy as a group I and the other20patients received open surgery as groupII. Male (42%) and female (58%) with all unilateral sides. The fifty adrenal tumor was resectedlaparoscopically (group I), right (29) and left (21). Preoperative and postoperative parameterswere analyzed focused mainly on size, operative time, blood loss, blood pressure oral intake,mobilization, analgesics and hospital stay. The remaining20(group II) patients were evaluatedretrospectively.Results: Fifty Laparoscopic adrenalectomy was completed, the retroperitoneal approach waspreferred. The average tumor size:2.5cm (0.5-5); mean duration of the operation (lap:94±28min and open:(118±35min, p<0.05), blood loss:(48.8±31ml vs.208±93ml, p<0.01),oral intake:(1.11±0.3vs2.84±0.60, p <0.01), analgesics:(3.32±0.59vs5.7±1.114, p <0.01), hospital stay:(8.3±2.8days and12.5±6.2days, p<0.05). Blood pressure: preoperative,intraoperative and postoperative in group I, were141.7±21.1/88.3±14.1mmHg,133.8±16.7/83.0±6.6mmHg and127.4±14.0/80.4±8.7mm Hg, respectively with a prominentpostoperative decrease in the blood pressure compared to those of preoperative and peroperative(p<0.05).Conclusions: Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a safe and effective approach with the advantagesof minimal invasion, less blood loss, shorter hospital stay and also help to hasten postoperativerecovery, which may save the costs of hospitalization. We concluded that Minimally Invasiveadrenalectomy should be considered as the gold standard treatment for adrenal tumors.
