Abstract

CFS Gasket using the sepiolite as a kind of reinforcing fiber is used extensively because of its excellent properties. However, the sepiolite is applied restrictedly due to its symbiotic relation with asbestos. The paper aims to study the preparation process of the outstanding sealing gasket utilizing no-asbestos, and to discuss its performance. The main research findings and achievements are following:(1)The paper introduces the effect on the overall performance of sealing gasket from the content of fiber and rubber, the categories of compounding agent, and the vulcanization process. In addition, the paper researches how to use the performance advantages of gasket to optimizing control the above raw material. The main parameters are following:fiber content is 30%, rubber 15%, compounding agent S 1.5%, M 1.5%, TT 1.0%, ZnO 5%.(2)Through study of the gasket stress, medium pressure, cyclic loading, interfaces quality and gasket width of gasket which influence the performance of gasket, we get the following summary:With the decrease of gasket stress and the increase of medium pressure, the leakage rate is increased; Thickness of the gasket influences its leakage styles; The different superficial treatments led to the different influences on the leakage rate of gasket. The leakage rate is highest without superficial treatment, the treatment of covering plastic film takes the second place, and the rate is lowest with rubber coating treatment.(3)Gasket mechanical model is presented to predict the gasket behavior, and gasket constants which are K1、K2、C1 and C2. The gasket constants are found to be independent of the gasket stress level but are affected by the gasket thickness. Residual clamp load formulation has been successfully used to predict the reliability and life of gasket.(4)Leakage model is presented to leak rates which are based on the theory of porous medium. It gives Gasket parameters which are influenced by gasket stress. Globally the experimental data show that at the low leak rates, the molecular flow model matches very well, whereas in the high leak rates the slip flow model gives better predictions.
