Abstract


This is a translation report on Supervision That Improves Teaching andLearning (the4thedition) written by Susan Sullivan and Jeffrey Glanz. In thistranslation project, the translator selects four sections from Chapter Five “AlternativeApproaches: Case Studies and Implementation Guidelines”, which introduces fourkinds of alternative approaches to supervision. The four approaches are InstructionalRounds, Book Studies Groups, Lesson Study Groups and Peer Coaching. Thestructure of this excerpt is extremely clear: it presents each approach by an authenticcase study, introduces these approaches in details, and suggests steps forimplementation and reflection. This report is divided into four parts: Part One is anoverall introduction to the translation report, including the background, the targetand the significance of the project. Part Two describes the original text, including theauthor introduction, main idea and analysis of characteristics. Part Three, with thefocus on the process of translation, elaborates the difficulties for translation and thetranslation theory adapted in the project, and further specific examples are given toillustrate how the translator adopts various translation techniques to cope with thedifficulties encountered under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence. The lastpart concludes the enlightenments and lessons.
