Abstract


Cooperative learning is advocated as one of the important strategies to English teaching by New Curriculum Reform of our country, which advocates studying and learning based on participation, cooperation and communication. Primary school period, as an important foundational stage of Compulsory education, it is especially important to implement cooperative learning as New Curriculum Reform proposed.Based on the background of New Curriculum Reform and English subject characteristics in primary school, the research deeply investigated the main problems of cooperative learning in primary school English classroom, analyzed the causes of those problems. Then puts forward some specific countermeasures of cooperative learning in primary school English classroom. The full text is divided into four parts:The first part:Starting from the background of the new curriculum reform and combined with the characteristics of English subject in primary school,the paper with a view to cultivate the students’interest in learning English and improve their capacity to communicate in English, put forward the background, the objectives and the significance of the research. The research method of the paper was also briefly explained in this part.The second part:By making full use of the library and reference room in our school, the paper gathered the relevant materials on cooperative learning, and found the theory foundation for the paper:Marxism about human nature, social interdependence theory, Maslow Hierarchy of Need Theory, learning-centered theory, motivation theory and theory of development. In this part, the basic concept of cooperative learning and related learning mode has been reorganized. The definition of the concept of cooperative learning was made as well.The third part:Data was collected by making a number of targeted classroom observations, interviewing some individual teachers and questioning large number of students. The problems of Cooperative Learning in Primary English Teaching include.-the construction of learning group, Using Frequency of cooperative teaching, single mode of cooperative learning, simple task problems, unfair chance of participation, classroom organization, cooperative evaluation and so on. Finally, the causes of those problems have been summarized. The fourth part:Based on the analysis of the problems, combined with the characteristics of English learning for primary school students, The paper puts forward relevant countermeasures to improve primary school English Cooperative learning in three aspects:the preparation phase of cooperative learning, the implementation phase of cooperative learning and the evaluation phase of cooperative learning.
