As one of the most important psychological traits of human-beings, self-esteem is about the conclusions of self-evaluation for one’s social roles, which expresses a positive or negative attitude, and conveys in what degree an individual believes he himself is capable, important, successful and valuable. As an important personality variable in span development, self-esteem affects our emotion, motivation, ability and behavior. Individuals with high self-esteem level are more willing to be open, honest in inter-communicate with others. So he gains much respect and trust, which will be benefit for his interpersonal relationships. And also there is something related to interpersonal trust. In interpersonal communication, if the individual owns a security sense for others in an uncertain situation of "cooperation or competition", he owns a is high level of interpersonal trust.At present, the self-esteem and interpersonal trust level has become an important index to measure one’s psychological health and social communication function. The orphans and the disabled children are a special social group, whose mental health level and social adaptation ability is much lower than that of normal children.This research mainly discusses the self-esteem and interpersonal trust level of the orphans and the handicapped children, aiming to help the most vulnerable social group by group counseling.The research selected20children from Shanghai Children’s Welfare Institute, and divided them into2groups randomly:experimental group and control group. With the single-factor randomized experimental design, the experimental group accepted group counseling intervention to improve their self-esteem and interpersonal trust.The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1) Through group counseling, the self-esteem level of the experimental group have been improved.(2) Through group counseling, the interpersonal trust level of the experimental group have been improved.(3) There is a positive correlation between the self-esteem and interpersonal trust,and they each can influence each other in the process of group counseling.
