Abstract


Song Dynasty is the prospering period of the culture of family instruction. Yuan’s Family Instruction, written by Yuan Cai in the early years of the Southern Song Dynasty, is one of the typical representative works on family instruction in this period. Yuans Family Instruction enriches the connotation of "self-cultivation and regulating family" which is inherent in traditional family instruction. It refers to broader social levels and the handling of social relationships beyond family, and it is the epitome of Yuan Cai’s thought about family ethic, self-cultivation and conduct in society, and domestic operation. It still has an active practical significance to maintain a harmonious family relationship, to establish a harmonious interpersonal relationship, and to form a good social convention. The main idea of Yuan s Family Instruction reflects the cultural character, which emphasizes moral education and social responsibility. It mirrors that in relatively complex social and historical environment, scholars were worried about their country and people, and tried their best to put their thought into achieving the goal of one family, one gens, one village and one township’s thriving. It is a true portrayal of scholars’practicing human care to undertake social responsibility.
