Motivation is an important means of university studentsideological and political education, and it has always been focused on by educators in this field. With the progress of time, the development of technology and the changes of social ideology, new changes and new problems have occurred in university students’ideology and political education. Since the resuming of college entrance examination30years ago, our higher education has witnessed enormous changes. Meanwhile, the quality of university students has become a hot issue of the society, concerning on how to enhance the routine management of university students, straighten out the talent-training pattern and improve their quality in higher education. Motivation theory, as a multidisciplinary applied theory in management, physics and education, plays an important and effective role in studying initiative and improving university students’ideological and political education by applying the theory rationally and scientifically.The present study will discuss the problems in university students’ideological and political education under various kinds of motivation theories. And then put forward some new solutions to them, that is, propose their juncture to improve the effect of motivation theory. In the present study, the diversified features of university students, their current situations as well as their psychological characteristics are considered in the study. And a systematic study has been carried out on the application of motivation theory on full understanding of university students’psychological characteristics. The study aims at expanding horizons for the application of motivation theory and forming a better understanding to the purpose of university students’ideological and political education.
