Abstract


Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer is a kind of traditional medicines in China. The polysaccharides isolated from the root of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer are active components which have anti-tumor, immunomodulation and hypoglycemic activities . The isolation and analysis of the polysaccharides from Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer were always important in the research. Water-extraction was used to extract polysaccharides in the past, which caused the loss of some polysaccharides. In this thesis, we extrated polysaccharides with alkali from the residues of the roots of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, and analyzed their structures.The results are as follows: Water-soluble polysaccharides(SGP-1-I、SGP-2-I and SGP-3-I)and water-insoluble polysaccharides (SGP-1-II、SGP-2-II and SGP-3-II) were isolated from the residue of the roots of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer by alkali-extraction after water extraction. The carbohydrate content, the uronic acid content and the starch content of every fraction were determined by the method of phenol-sulfuric acid,m-hydroxyphenyl and iodine-potassium iodide, respectively.The monosaccharide compositions and the molecular weights were determined according to HPLC. We concluded that, SGP-1-I、SGP-2-I and SGP-3-I were mixture of the type-I rhamnogalacturonan (RG-I)-rich pectins and starch-like glucan. Xyl-containing structures were found in SGP-2-I and SGP-3-I. SGP-2-II and SGP-3-II were amyloses. SGP-1-II was a mixture of the type-I rhamnogalacturonan (RG-I)-rich pectins, homogalacturonan (HG)-rich pectins and starch-like glucan.
