Iron and steel industry is the backbone industry of the national economy, is animportant component of the national economy industrial chain, its development has a biginfluence on national economy and the industrialization, and is an important symbol of thedevelopment level of a country economy society and the comprehensive strength. In thelast decades, China’s steel and iron industry has great progress, steel production went upfrom one hundred million tons to two hundred million tons only from1997to2003, andin a short time, that has facilitated our country become the first steel output power in theworld, But our country iron and steel industry’s big but not strong, but not optimal diseasehas been exist; And in recent years, the production surplus, costs and other reasons hasrestricted the development of iron and steel industry. But the iron and steel enterpriseefficiency undoubtedly is the solution to the problem of effective way. Iron and steelindustry is resource-intensive industries, the iron and steel enterprise efficiency alsoresponse to the national12-5planning in the resource efficiency subject. Listed steelcompanies in China iron and steel industry is the most important part of the discussion ofChina’s iron and steel enterprises listed on the efficiency level, undoubtedly haveimportant economic value, to change the present situation of China iron and steel industryis of great significance.This paper firstly introduces some basic theory, and then makes analysis on thecurrent situation of steel industry, and expounds the problems existing in the iron and steelindustry in our country. Market structure is unreasonable, especially the industrialconcentration is low; Steel product quality is not high, innovation investment of Steelenterprise is insufficiency; industry layout is not scientific. Finally, this paper takes dataenvelopment analysis (DEA), combined with data of2007~2011of the listed company ofour country steel, selects pig iron, steel production output, business income, the totalassets, business costs and enterprise on-the-job personnel6indexes to make empiricalanalysis. The paper analyses of steel production efficiency, pure technical efficiency andscale efficiency level of the listed company in the sample; makes a comprehensivethinking about the effects of total factor productivity on steel production efficiency, andcarries on vertical and horizontal analysis.Combining with the above research, China’s listed steel enterprises should take thefollowing measures to improve enterprise efficiency. Pay attention to scientific andtechnological innovation and technology progress, improve enterprise technical efficiencylevel; To improve the enterprise management level, pay attention to the full use of inputs,Further improve the industry concentration, better access to scale effect; Increase theindustry’s regional distribution adjustments, optimization of industrial layout and guidethe private enterprise; Optimization strategy layout, improve competitiveness; Streamline institutions, improve efficiency.
