Abstract


Enterprises value innovation highly and bring in advanced technology, which islargely due to economic growth and development driven by the technology. Patentlicensing not only determines the legal relationship between the Licensor and Licensee,but also helps enterprises to apply new technology to production practices, which canachieve greater economic benefits, while helping inventors to realize the economic valueand the market value of the technology. Therefore, it is very important to study therelationship between patent licensing and the economic growth.This paper takes our information and communication industry with a strong R&Dcapabilities as examples, uses social networks analysis methods to build industry patentlicensing networks, analyzes the pattern of the industry patent licensing, and investigateswhether enterprises participating in the patent licensing will have its impact on economicbenefits, as well as what kind of the impact. It can provide advices to the policyformulation, the industry development and the patent licensing strategy in the technologyfield.The first chapter introduces the related research status at home and abroad from threeaspects, which include impacts of economic development caused by patents andinvestment in science and technology, economic impacts by corporate patent licensingstrategy and the application of the social network to the innovation research. And choosethe social network analysis and sample data analysis as the methods, to determine whatkind of the networks can gain the economic benefits more.The second chapter sets metrics of the overall structure of the patent licensingnetwork, individual characteristics and economic impactions by patent licensing, andintroduces the principles and calculation methods of the various parameters in detail. Themain measure metrics include network structure metrics, individual characteristic metricsas well as the metrics which measure the economic impactions by patent licensing.The third chapter makes a detailed analysis and discussion about the overall state andthe network of patent licensing in the information and communication industry. Describethe data sources and data screening methods of patent licensing data obtained in this paper; make detailed research and analysis about patent licensing in the information andcommunication industry of China and collect the sample data; draw the patent licensingdetailed picture and make sample networks structure analysis, sub-networks analysis andindividual analysis based on the indicators.The fourth chapter makes analysis and discussion about the relationship betweenpatent licensing in the field of information and communication and the economicefficiency of enterprises. Select Philips, Wuhan Iron and Steel Group, ZTE as the analysissamples, and analyze each company’s profit growth based on the collation of theirfinancial data. Investigate the economic efficiency of the patent licensing. Conclude thatpatent licensing has a positive effect on economic growth. Describe the impact of networkexternalities of the patent license on the economic benefits.The fifth chapter presents suggestions about the policy on patent licensing in the fieldof information and communication. Encourage universities to make independent researchand development, and advocate a common licensing model; promote the development ofindustry associations, and carry out the technical exchange activities of trade associations.
