Abstract

With the rise of positive psychology, much attention is paid to research about subjective well-being in recent years. The study found that happy employees work in more creatively, live a more fulfilling life and can deal with problems more effectively. However, in2005China Human Resource Development Network did a survey about working happiness index for5350employees, and the results show that Chinese employees’ overall happiness index remains at the lower middle, and experience more negative emotions at work. Scholars have discussed this and gave many reasons, but a more consistent interpretation is job stress. Job stress can affect employees’health, thereby affecting the operation of the organization. Therefore, to study job stress and subjective well-being is instructive both for the harmonious development of the individuals, organizational efficiency and social economic development. In this paper, job stress is used as independent variable and subjective well-being as dependent variable, while introducing locus of control variable and work-family conflict variable, to explore job stress’s impact on subjective well-being and its mechanism. Hypotheses and research model of this study are put forward based on the literature review of existing research. The study regarded286employees from different organizations and cities as sample, carrying on the questionnaire research about their work stress, locus of control, work-family conflict and subjective well-being. Then it used SPSS19.0software to analyze data and test hypothesis and finally it provided some constructive suggestions for the management practices based on research findings.Through questionnaire surveys and statistical analysis, this study drew some conclusions as follow.(1)Negative correlation is existed between job stress and subjective well-being, and the impact on the dimensions are significant.(2) Job stress and work-family conflict are positively correlated, and the impact on its two sub-dimensions are significant. (3) Work-family conflict and its two dimensions are negatively correlated with subjective well-being.(4) Work-family conflict can completely mediate the relationship between job stress and subjective well-being. The dimension of work conflict family acts completely mediation between job stress and subjective well-being, but the dimension of family conflict work acts partial mediation between job stress and subjective well-being.(5) Locus of control moderates the relationship between job stress and work-family conflict.(6) Job stress, locus of control, work-family conflict and subjective well-being are significantly different in demographic variables like gender, marital status, education and job position.
