As an important intermediary in the capital market, investment banks which emerged as a result of economic development develop with the establishment of the capital market and rapidly prosper in the innovative course of the capital market. When serving as a bridge and a medium in the capital market, investment banks mainly aim to find out investors, seek investing opportunities and further make successful cooperation between investors and raisers. Effective allocation of social resources and vital stability of the capital market are thus achieved.Amid the backdrop that economic globalization and financial markets influence one another, disintermediation phenomena occurred in a low profile and direct financing capital markets gradually thrive. International financial magnates find their way into Chinese high-end financial client service field through diversified channels and means. At present, banks’credit business is no longer the main source of financing for large-scale enterprises. Short-term financing can be solved by issuing short-term bonds while medium long-term funds can be realized by medium term notes, corporate bonds, stocks and convertible bonds, etc. In face of those direct financing impacts, banks should raise the problem of how to remain a competitive financial service and product provider into a strategic level. In response to the significant market changes, ICBC makes up its mind to achieve a transition from enterprise credit to enterprise financing and remake itself from a credit bank to a trusted bank for providing comprehensive finance service to clients.In this article, emphatic analysis is performed on the inherent profit-making value features of commercial banks and investment banks on the basis of the analysis on the developments of and differences between home and abroad investment banks and the operation characteristics of ICBC in the investment bank services. The analyzing process starts with the value origin of investment banks and goes on by screening the investment bank competitive strategy types feasible to Jiangxi Branch, ICBC. It’s found that the differential development strategy is the optimum one.Meanwhile, the strategy is detailed in aspects of service development, brand positioning and service procedures, etc. of the investment bank service of Jiangxi Branch, ICBC for its better implementation. In a nutshell, to enforce the differential strategy means to take innovative measures different from those in traditional commercial banks in service brand, organization and personnel motivation, to enhance cooperation between internal and external cooperative mechanisms, broaden capital channels via the platform and relevant licenses and have a command of diversified financial tools, and further to establish a risk control system suitable for the service development of Jiangxi investment bank.
