Abstract

Sepiolite is a kind of low cost magnesium-rich fibrous silicate clay mineral, which is widely distributed and good at mechanical property and thermal stability. It is a sort of good adsorbent with strong adsorption capacity and molecular sieves function. In this study, the sepiolite powder was used to prepare powder and grain as adsorbent to treat simulated oily wastewater and practical wastewater.Through captive test and desorption test, the influences of factors on the sorption of sepiolite had been measrued by the COD-removal rete and oil-removal rate of wastewater.Sorption isotherms of sepiolite were obtained during absorption experiment in laboratory. Results indicated that the COD-removal rate and oil-removal rate of wastewater treated by sepiolite powder had preferable effect, and the sorption isotherms accorded with Freundlich equation.Through the orthogonal test designed for the ratio of raw material mixture, the best ratio of raw material and the best calcinations temperature was discussed;through captive test, the best calcinations time was discussed. Results of experiment proved that under the optimum reaction conditions for sepiolite powder to treat simulated wastewater, whose initial COD concentration was 1021.00mg/L and initial oil concentration was 682.72mg/L,the COD-removal rate could be up to 96.33%and the oil-removal rate could be up to 94.14%;while under the optimum reaction conditions for sepiolite grain to treat simulated wastewater, the COD-removal rate could be up to 87.05%,the oil-removal rate could be up to 82.42%.And the results also proved that under the optimum reaction conditions for sepiolite to treat practical wastewater, whose initial COD was 170.98mg/L and initial oil concentration was 72.17mg/L,the COD-removal rate could be up to 92.33%and the oil-removal rate coule be up to 82.57%in this condition.Result proved the sepiolite grain was easy to reuse, the COD-removal rate of wastewater treated by sepiolite reused one time could be up to 86.16%;Reused for 3 times the COD-removal rate could be up to 77.69%. Result of adsorption test showed that the COD and oil-removal rate of wastewater treated by sepiolite had preferable effect. Moreover, sepiolite has preferable reuse effect. It have good environmental benefit.
