Abstract


Today, learning Chinese has become very popular in Laos, more and more Lao students start to learn Chinese. The current study has investigated and analyzed Laotian students’language behavior and motives while learning Chinese. It came out that:1. the attitude of lao students increasingly keen to learn chinese2. They chose to learn Chinese out of interest, they think it is both a useful and appealing language. Moreover, they also think speaking Chinese will help them find a well-paid job, this is a very important reason for them to learn Chinese.3. While investigating, we found out that the motives vary significantly depending on sex, age and either the students have Chinese origins. The current study has analyzed these differences and provides suggestions and strategies on how to trigger students’interests.4. Laos students’learning interests are affected by the atmosphere in the classroom, the teacher, the teaching behavior and level.
