Abstract


Vocational education shoulders the historical task for training high-quality labor forces to support regional social and economic development and eliminate unbalanced development. Zhangzhou Agricultural School in Fujian is a famous school with a history of 10 decades, but it still faces great challenges for survival and development in the new era. It is innovative on research method to conduct a case study with the perspective of educational ecology. It is meaningful to make educational ecology be better understood and to promote the sustainable development of Chinese agricultural education.In the view of educational ecology, the main issues of local agricultural vocational education include:(1) many schools are the same in all of the respects; (2) the use rate of educational resources is poor; (3) the educational environment is deteriorated.The main contents of the study include:(1) the history of Zhangzhou Agricultural School; (2) the educational ecological environment and developmental orientation for Zhangzhou Agricultural School in the new era; (3) the developmental strategies for Zhangzhou Agricultural School; The theory and methods of educational ecology is used.The research results indicate that: 1) Zhangzhou Agricultural School should be reoriented and formulate new development strategies. 2) The orientation of Zhangzhou Agricultural School should be as follows:giving priority to medium level vocational education and meanwhile conducting higher correspondence vocational education, short-term training; integrating production, education and research; based on the traditional subjects such as agronomy, horticulture and stock raising to keep a leading position in Fujian, giving prominence to agricultural product processing; making the agricultural machinery, agricultural electricity and computer subjects be famous brand specialties; regarding teaching quality as the lifeline, remain a proper scales, reasonable in structure, flexible in form, improving quality and effectiveness, finally making the school be a famous vocational school with special characteristic. 3) The developmental strategies for the school included:1) persisting educational reform; 2) recruiting more students through improving their employment; 3) training inter-disciplinary talents; 4) optimizing educational ecology; 5) insisting on open door policy to run the school.Since the medium agricultural vocational education in Fujian Province cannot meet the demand, so it is necessary to make follow up study on the developmental orientation and strategies using educational ecology theory.
