Abstract


This thesis mainly discusses the BSP technology of embedded Linux system. Firstly, the thesis introduces the basic concept of embedded Linux BSP and analyzes the basic function, implementation, programming interface of bootloader and device driver.The Linux 2.6 kernel builds a unified device model as a foundation mechanism behind device driver. The device model decides the framework and programming interface of device driver. We study the data structures, hierarchy, components of device model in detail and discuss the driver programming of platform bus device including device registrations, main data structure and framework. A basic procedure and method porting driver to new device model are proposed accordingly.Finally, the thesis describes the detail procedure of the BSP development in an actual project. We use U-boot as bootloader, and discuss its structure, characteristic and porting. As an example, a driver for ethernet interface chip is analyzed to show all details involved for driver development. Therefore, a reference model is proposed to understand and design device driver under kernel 2.6.
