In the recent years, computer technology and electronic technology is developing rapidly. The technology improvement of semi-conductor increases the efficiency of embedded processor greatly too. Fast development of wireless data transmission make the mobile Internet is popular more and more, same as the Autos. All of that make the Auto Intelligence the trend for auto industry development gradually. Information based and intelligence of traffic management system is inevitably becoming the requirement of application era. In this vehicle terminal field, tracing, positioning, navigation, audio and video facilities are the core key products undoubtedly, the quality of the products are related to the safety, efficiency and energy saving of the autos in the meantime.This article is a real project about vehicle tracking and positioning terminal. Our product is identified as small enough, power low, network wide, accurate fixing rate, and configurable from server side.Referring to the existing market macro-background and many technical documents, we researched and developed this system which was based on ARM, with tracing and positioning technology realized by comprehensive GPS, GSM/GPRS and TCP/IP technologies. This system’s vehicle terminal has one STR710R CPU connected with GPS, GSM/GPRS modules and other optional CAN and USB interfaces. eCos is ported onto it and the application software is multithread supported and with TCP, UDP and SMS communication methods. This System’s server support multi-clients in the same time and provides friendly GUI. This article did research the word wide positioning system and clearify the protocle used by GPS module. eCos’s porting method and driver software are both talked according to the hardware. In general all software life time is almost considered and described in this article.
