The field experiments were set up in Central Henan from 2008-2010 to investigate the effects of leaf traits and water-fertilization management on the contents of nuetral aroma components in flue-cured tobacco with the sytle of strong aroma. 1. The results showed that the carotenoid catabolite reached maximum value at the middle of interleaf and decrease from midrib to the ledges the lowest contents located in the edge closed to the tip. For Mallard reaction compounds, the highest value was at the tip of leaf and the lowest value appeared at the middle portion. The distribution of Aromatic amino acid catabolite was similar to the alkaloid distribution in the leaf, which increased from the midrib to the edges and the lowest content was located at the base area and the highest content located at the edge closed to the tip. For cembratriendiol catabolite, the highest content located the base area. The neophytadiene was higher at the middle area and the lower content was located at the edge and base area .2. Results showed that in the middle leaves Carotenoid catabolite and Mallard and Solanone most of neutral aroma components reached the highest in the weight of per leaf 12g, then decreased when the content get the maximum value .When the weight of per leaf closed the maximum value the content of neutral aroma components almost have no change. In the middle leaves of neophytadiene reached the highest in the weight of per leaf 10g and it decreased with the increase of weight of per leaf. For upper leaves, the weight of per leaf at 12~15g had the highest aroma content and the content of Solanone have the lowest value at the weight of per leaf 9g. When the weight of per leaf closed the maximum value the content of neutral aroma components almost have no change. The content of middle leaves have large range than the upper leaves of total content of volatile aroma matter except neoplytadiene The weight of per leaf of middle leaves with 10~12g and the weight of per leaf of upper leaves with 12~15g were the best range, consider the contents of all the neutral aroma components.3. Results showed that in the middle leaves most of the carotenoid catabolite and Mallard and amino acid catabolites reached the highest level at the middle leaves length59~62cm, then decreased as the increase of middle leaves length. The variation of contents of volatile aroma components excluding neophytadiene were the highest at the middle leaves length 62cm . For upper leaves, contents of most carotenoid catabolite and Mallard and amino acid catabolites were the highest in the range of leaf length of 65~68g, upper leaves, and the value reached maximum at the weight per leaf of 12g. Considering all the important aroma components. The variation of contents of volatile aroma components excluding neophytadiene were the highest at the upper leaves length 65cm. Considering all the important aroma components, the best value of leaf length was between 59~62cm for middle leaves, and between 65-68 for upper leaves.4. The results showed that the relationship between micro-spraying amount and the contents of carotene catabolites , phenylalanine catabolites , carbohydrate and Maillard reaction catabolites in different positions was significantly different. For lower leaves, aroma content increased with the increase of micro-spraying amount to a certain degree, then decreased when the irrigation amount surpassed 48mm. The content of aromas constituents in mid leave had no significant differences among different irrigation amounts. For upper leaves, the irrigation amount of 48mm and 72mm had the highest aroma content; The traditional furrow irrigation with the irrigation amount of 120mm had the lowest content of aroma compound. It is concluded that irrigation amount of 48~72mm with micro-spraying is conducive to the formation of aroma constituents for all leaf positions. No irrigated tobacco had low level of aroma matter in bottom leaves, while irrigating too much by furrow irrigation would decrease aroma content in upper leaves.5. Results showed that at higher fertility conditions, the content of carotenoid catabolite, carbohydrate and Maillard reaction catabolite, phenylalanine cracking catabolite increased with stalk position, but the content of solanone was low at middle and up middle leaf positions. The content of neophytadiene reached the highest in up middle leaves. At the medium fertility conditions, most of aroma contents reached the highest value at up middle positions and the content of solanone and neophytadiene reached the highest value in cutters and primings. At lower fertility conditions, most of the aroma contents had the highest contents in cutters or primings. In general, the bottom leaves have the least aroma contents and the top leaves from the higher fertility conditions had the most aroma contents. The least differences in contents of aroma components among three fertility conditions were found in middle leaves and the greatest differences were found in top leaves.
