Abstract


Cordierite-mullite composites based on MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system-based material, not only has good thermal expansion and thermal shock resistance and other high-temperature performance, but also has excellent electrical insulation. It has a wide range of applications from refractory to the computer substrate. In this paper, the use of light-burned MgO powder, pyrophyllite powder, combined with the clay,α-Al2O3, talc, flint clay, bauxite and other raw materials synthesize cordierite material and cordierite-mullite composites, the design test programs: Using the above raw material prepared reasonably the four synthetic cordierite raw material formulations and four synthetic cordierite - mullite products recipes, samples for testing will be make by pressure molding machine after mixing, and sintered with different temperature and holding time , that are studied that sintering conditions and the composition of different raw materials affect on the performance of the synthetic cordierite materials and cordierite-mullite products. The test results show that: By holding time is 6 hours at 1330℃, performances of synthetic cordierite by the 4# recipe are better, and the cordierite samples have low thermal expansion and content of synthetic cordierite is most. By holding time is 6 hours at 1330℃, performances of synthetic cordierite-mullite products that are composed by different size flint, cordierite clinker and 4# total milling power are better, and it has highest load softening point. When dosage of cordierite clinker is 15 percent, performances of synthetic cordierite-mullite products are superior than others, and the crystallization of products are best. When dosage of cordierite clinker is 20 percent, the products have the best thermal expansion.
