Abstract

With the wide application of the laser in military and scientific research and life, people gradually pay more attention to the laser protection. Optical limiting devices primarily apply for the military aspect. Human eye and optoelectronic devices are the main target of the interference and blinding laser weapons. As laser protective materials, nowadays, the best performance, close to the practical use of the optical limiting material is based on the nonlinear principle of reverse saturable absorption. When these materials are used, it has to take into account its stability and specific factors such as the absorption band after synthesis. In view of the limitations, materials of a micro-processing, such as photonic crystals, have long been the focus of the study countries. The design of photonic crystal structure can control the band. Current photonic crystal optical limiting material is still in the stage of theoretical research. One-dimensional photonic crystal structure is simple, but it does have two-dimensional and three-dimensional nature of photonic crystals, so one-dimensional photonic crystal research has its own significance. Nonlinear photonic crystal makes changes in response to intensities: defects state moves with change of the incident intensity in the band gap, so that we can achieve the purpose of dynamic modulation wave.In this paper, it makes the numerical analysis of one-dimensional nonlinear photonic (1-DNPC) crystal optical limiter in theory. First of all, it analyzes band structure of one-dimensional linear photonic crystal; and then to analyze in detail the "forward iterative method" and "sub-layer reverse recursive transfer matrix method," point to the application Conditions and their advantages and disadvantages of two methods. The use of one-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystals for light modulation characteristics of dynamic, combined with non-linear optical limiting effect, it designs some kinds of 1-DNPC optical limiters. To achieve: when low light intensity incident, the visible and infrared light waves 1.06μm are high transmission; under high light intensity, 1.06μm is low transmission. The whole design makes use of "reverse sub-layer recursive transfer matrix method" to carry out simulation, analyzes the differences of location of electrical field to asymmetrical structure and symmetrical structure of the 1-DNPC optical limiter, and point that the degree of the former in localization is greater, so non-linear effect is more conducive to play. Then adjust to the distribution of Kerr medium in 1-DNPC, to reduce the threshold of optical limiting effect. These have certain significance to the practical application.
