Abstract


Being considered as the political center of any cities in China, Government Administrative Plaza stands for one city’s nature and character. Nowadays, the construction of new Government Administrative Plaza shall be exposed to the present increasing demand of value people first and promotion of the harmonious society. Being a very important part of Government Administrative Plaza, not only the Government Administrative Square reflects one city’s ideological infrastructure and helps to develop one city’s economics and cultures, but also provides the public open space to service people’s daily activities better. At the same time, the Government Administrative Square also serves as a perfect communication platform between State Government and it’s people. It provides a good environment to promote the scientific development and social harmony perseveringly.First, through reviewing related literature and summarizing the course of development of Government Administrative Squares in China and aboard, along with field investigation, this part of article analyzes and discusses the modern Chinese Government Administrative Squares with respect to their styles and growing trend. It puts forward the problems and issues among them in terms of landscape design, and emphasizes that a good quality landscape design is closely related to visitors’behaviors and their mental needs. This part of the article also reveals that the Chinese Government Administrative Squares should reflect one city’s spirit, cultural connotation and regional characteristics.Secondly, based on numerous paradigms and facts, this article systematically illustrates landscape characteristics, constituent of landscape elements, cultural connotation and aesthetic uniqueness of the modern Chinese Government Administrative Squares. Three Government Administrative Squares in China are selected and investigated in the field by using method of observation, field questionnaires, and personal interviews, etc…Then, field data are collected, analyzed, compared and summarized, which provide designers the scientific research figures and recommendations regarding landscape design.Finally, based on literature review and the analysis performed in the previous parts of the article, this part of the article concludes and provides the five fundamental landscape design principles and four landscape design methodologies for Government Administrative Square design to landscape designers. The five fundamental design principles are dualism, humanization, regionalization, place and ecology. Based on the dualism, based on the behavioral need, based on regional characteristics as well as based on the place of spirit are the four design methodologies. In the end, the author practically approves and concludes the theories that proposed in the previous contexts on selected Government Administrative Squares, which are investigated personally by the author.
