Abstract


With the increasingly important role email plays in people’s living and working, the more mobility of email is demanded by individuals and business users, and the mobile email business certainly will be more widely used. The mobile PushMail business discussed in this paper refers to using PUSH technology to make mobile PushMail users get their emails at the first time.However, the openness of mobile networks will cause potential security threats in users’applications. The narrow network bandwidth and limited resources of mobile terminals will also cause inconvenience use, thereby they will cumber the popularization of PushMail application. To solve these problems, the most popular email security standards and the security solutions of some major operators are analyzed, and a mobile PushMail system based on PKI using of ECC arithmetic is proposed, then its safety and efficiency are analyzed and evaluated.In this paper, the detailed design of the mobile PushMail system including the client, PUSH gateway, email proxy server and the PKI entities are roundly discussed. In order to ensure the authenticity, confidentiality, integrity of emails, a dual certificates PKI system for the public key and certificate management is introduced. Meanwhile, the encryption algorithms and processes used by PGP and S/MIME standards are analyzed, and an end-to-end encryption and signature process based on ECC algorithm are designed. It can avoid tapping, tampering, counterfeiting and other attacks during the emails’transmission, and can overcome the limits of mobile terminals on energy capability and computing ability. A online/offline conversion strategy of client is proposed in this paper, which ameliorates the online strategy of BlackBerry solution, reduces the waste of resources and improves the user experience.Finally, some recommendations for improvement are put forward, and the future direction are prospected.
