Abstract


Firstly, the electromagnetic (EM) scattering of a special photonic crystal-the micro-structure of Morpho butterfly’s wing is anlyzed with finite difference time domain (FDTD) method in this thesis. The EM scattering characteristic of the entire structure is investigated with the computational area decomposited as“回”-shaped subdomain, so that the total field area and scattering field area are departed. The correctness of the algorithm and associated code are verified by modeling results. Numerical results presented will be benefit for further EM study of the micro-structure.Furthermore,The bandstop and angle-dependent characteristics of optical EM scattering from the micro-structure of Morpho butterfly’s wing are investigated in detail in this dissertation with the FDTD method. And the structural parameters that affect the bandstop characteristic and angle-dependent performance are explained with photonic crystal theory and optical coating theory, and some important principles are found consequently. Numerical results of bandstop characteristic presented will be benefit for the high-performance biomimetic structure design in the future. And the angle-dependent mechanism has prospective applications in the stealth design of military targets.At the end of the thesis, we designed an X-band biomimetic structure by the scale reduction theory. The feasibility of the application in this frequency band is validated by the simulation and measurement results. The applications of this structure in other reseach area are also mentioned in the dissertation.
