Abstract


Nature breeds timber. To study timber art must begin with the study of timber’s nature. it is so-called that thirty percent congenital and seventy percent artificial. As a kind of natural renewable resources, timber has some characters including shape, color, texture and grain. So, it is a perfect green material. No matter the traditional wood carving, root carving or all kinds of log furniture to sell can bring plastic beauty which are natural and naive. Recent years, as a technic that is newer with time wooden decorations have been favoring by more and more people. People appeal the combination of original return and new ideas, and expect the creation and application of wooden decorations in daily life. It is not only because of people’s inseparability to nature and traditional culture, but also because of the economic developing requirement of national culture, native culture and folkloric culture. With the development of science and technology and the exploration and usage of new materials, the combination of timber and other materials will enter a new space and write a new chapter. The combination and confliction of traditional art and modern technology must create a new art realm. By the modern aesthetic view, the natural wooden shapes are purified to the decoration art which have the modern spirit in order to master the pith and marrow of traditional timber art, making the past serve the present, bringing forth the new through the old and keeping up with the times, to create exquisite works which unify of heaven and man.
