Tea is an important product of drink in the market at home and abroad. In recent years, it has been kept at a stable consumption status. And under this background, tea industry has become a major pillar industry in driving economic development of mountain areas in China, which includes a series of link of producing, processing, circulating, selling and scientific research. It can help to increase wealth. Xiapu Shuimen Town has become one of the important areas for tea production in Ningde City due to its superior resource conditions. Tea industry is a vital industry relating to construct a new countryside, develop agriculture and increase famers’income. So it comes up with a key task including increasing competitiveness of tea, studying new ways on development of tea industry and promoting its sustainable development in the new situation.The paper takes Xiapu Shuimen Town as a study case and it is based on some theories, including industry classification, industrial structure, behavior identity, sustainable development, ecological economy, and agro technical economics. It also uses some research methods adopting empirical approach, contrast analysis and quantitative analysis. First, the paper investigates the current situation of tea industry in Shuimen Town, which includes tea industry’s status in national economy, the enlarging scale of tea plantation, the increasing output value of tea, the initial result of constructing green production area, the speeding up of industrialization promotion, the initial result of branding development.Second, it uses the method of SWOT to analyze the superiority, weakness, opportunity and threatening situation in developing tea industry.Third, it summarizes and studies some successful experience of sustainable development of different countries and districts, such as India, Sri Lanka, the UK, Japan, Vietnam, and Anxi.Finally, under the results of SWOT analysis and the successful experience of tea industry development at home and abroad, the paper puts forward the suggestions that are helpful for the sustainable development of local tea industry from the enterprise, industry, the government’s perspective, and it provides certain reference for further development of tea industry in Shuimen Town.
